St. Mary’s is proud of its dedicated and experienced church choir of adult voices, joined by children on occasions. While there isn’t an established junior choir at the moment, the church choir cherishes its collaboration with The Octaves and encourages any interested children and teenagers to try the choral experience.
The choir’s extensive repertoire can be heard during the sung 10.30am Eucharist on Sunday morning, as well as at Choral Evensong on the first Sunday of each month. Performances outside its home church have included Choir Pilgrimages to various Cathedrals and concerts with ensembles such as the Flowers Brass Band from Gloucester and the Fitzhardinge Consort.
The choir rehearses on Friday evenings from 7.30 – 8.45pm. We always welcome new members – if interested, please contact Joachim, our Musical Director at firstname.lastname@example.org or simply pop in to one of our Friday practices. We do not require availability to commit to all the rehearsals and services (joining the occasional Choral Evensong is absolutely fine) but would expect new singers to keep up with the performed repertoire. Basic music reading skills (or willingness to be trained in them) are therefore essential.
