Thornbury Parish
Sue Phillipson-
Retired Priest
“Retired priest, ex-
life”!
Who am I? Born at an early age – didn’t work at school – what could that lead to? Yes, a PE teacher. I trained at Chelsea College of PE – enjoyed that, but I’m not too sure if the children would agree –
how many teenage girls do you know who love to freeze on a games pitch?
Theological training next was at Trinity College, Bristol, and then I served in five parishes before
retirement. Really loved parish ministry – its diversity, the challenges, the people, the schools – just great!
So what do I enjoy doing now? I am pleased to be able to help out at St Mary’s and other churches
in the benefice. I am, as they say, “living the dream…!”
Free time? Well – love gardening, reading, swimming, playing the pia
What would I like to be when I grow up? Archbishop of Canterbury, because I’m sure I could sort out
the CofE – but I don’t do hats! Failing that I’m open to suggestions!
